The first available AsciLAB (Acoustic Science Laboratory) loudspeakers the C6B and F6B have arrived and they are phenomenally good.

Thats the subjective bit over and done with.

Their measurements suggested they would be transparent and they are, what I didn't expect alongside the neutrality, accurate tone and timbre was the punch, drive and bass extension from a compact two way design albeit with 5 x 8" rear mounted passive bass radiator.

Added to their power handling they play much louder than a compact design has any right to and without a hint of distortion, it is distortion that makes you turn the volume down particularly in compact loudspeaker designs.

AsciLAB are two way designs which measure and sound like three ways!

This is how to 'speak Ascilab',

The first letter of the model name indicates the product category, classified by the following tiers:-

* S = Signature model, consisting exclusively of Purifi drivers.

* A = Purifi  Aluminium woofer and a ceramic-aluminium tweeter.

* C = Ceramic Aluminium woofer and a ceramic-aluminium tweeter.

* F = Fibre woofer and an aluminium tweeter.

The middle number represents the diameter of the main driver in inches.

The final letter denotes the type of enclosure,

 B = Bookshelf

*  C = Cardioid

BX8C and BX10C, BX stands for 'Bass Extend Stand' number= woofer size and 'C' refers to 'Cardioid'.

So with the above translation the C6B:-

6" Aluminium-Ceramic Woofer

1"Aluminium-Ceramic Dome Tweeter

5x8" ( racetrack) rear mounted passive radiator.

We have the C6B in Matt White and Matt Black rrp is £1100 per pair which includes vat and delivery.

The AsciLAB F6B is again a two way with 5x8" passive radiator ,

6" Fibre cone Woofer

1" Aluminium Dome Tweeter.

Again we have then in Matt White and Matt Black which are the standard colours.

RRP is £785 per pair including vat and delivery.

'Modern' and 'Metallic' Grey are also available at a small extra charge.

There is a choice of grill and waveguide colour options, to special order.

AsciLAB have sent both the C6B and F6B to Amir at ASR ( Audio Science Review) and to Erin ( Erin's Audio Corner ) both of whom have the Klippel NFS scanner, AsciLAB have from the outset owned their own Klippel NFS.

AsciLAB are I believe the 'perfect' manufacturer, their designs are entirely measurement led with a strict 'form follows function' ethos, they choose to do the 'hard' thing, for example engineering their own deep waveguide enabling the tweeter to be crossed lower than other manufacturers resulting in lower distortion, rather than just following the herd, and most importantly they are completely transparent they publish every measurement for everyone of their designs, they justify every design decision with objective proof, they are as transparent as their designs.

I welcome anyone here at Purité Audio, London to evaluate the speakers for themselves or we can install and optimise a pair in your own listening space, ideally keeping your existing system to enable direct comparison.

The 'system' we use here is simply a computer running ROON/Quboz an inexpensive streamer/Dac ( any of the Eversolo units which are all audibly transparent) and the superb

Boxem 'Arthur' 4216 stereo power amplifier. Frederic Jacquot ( Mr Boxem) uses Purifi's Eigentakt modules and his implementation build quality and aesthetics are the best I have tried.

The C6B/F6B are just the beginning, in a few weeks the Purifi based A6B will arrive which is the finest implementation of the Purifi aluminium woofer/ twin passive radiators available.

Ascilab have published a 'road map' of their future releases, which contains some thrilling designs you can see them here.

AsciLAB have also launched their site, just click on a speaker to reveal its complete Klippel measurement suite,

In summation what makes Acoustic Science Laboratory loudspeakers unique?

Absolutely state of the art design and measurements and incredibly reasonably priced,

for example their C6C ( Cardioid) matched with its Bx8C sub module will easily better the Kii Three/BXT combination at less than half the price.

'Perfect Sound For everyone' ( to paraphrase CD's launch slogan).
