I sent the Sonoma M1’s to a client who has a comprehensive collection of headphones and headphone amplifiers, here are some of his thoughts,
‘Here are my final impressions of the Sonoma M1. I have only commented on the sonic aspects of the system as you’re well aware of the excellent build quality and technical implementation of the design.
The Sonoma M1 creates a palpably holographic sound stage with precise instrumental layering, a wonderfully natural tonal balance, good extension at frequency extremes, excellent dynamics and an astonishing level of resolution, transient speed and transparency.
There's a visceral quality to voice reproduction that's sublime and gossamer like, which is very reminiscent of the high end Stax earspeakers, but without any hint of treble glare or forced stridency. The reproduction of orchestral scale and three dimensional space with air between instrumental images, and a sense that these images have palpability and presence is simply extraordinary.
PRaT (pace, rhythm & timing) is spot on with fantastic timbre. Subtle changes in inflections from instruments are easily identified yet this ability to pinpoint micro details, e.g. a trumpeter altering his mouth shape to subtly change note tone, doesn’t detract from the macro cohesiveness of the overall aural experience.
If potential customers want to hear and feel just how good headphone listening can be, then they should seriously consider auditioning the Sonoma M1 system, as to my ears it is virtually flawless. ‘
